Note On Trail Popularity:

Across many parks, attributes that have higher associated average trail popularities are unique activities, such as ice climbing, snowshoeing, birding, or rock climbing, as opposed to nature hiking, walking, or backpacking. If you are like many people and want to make sure to do all of the different activities possible at a park - this may contribute to this trend! If only a couple of trails for each park have an associated activity, and so you want to do that activity, you can go to that specific trail, and thus contribute to the continued popularity of that trail.

Additionally, the average popularity of trails with common hiking trail activities, like walking or trail running, may be lower or average simply because there are many trails with that attribute.
